The Foundation awards grants in the following areas: aging population; arts, culture, and history; children and youth; education; indigent; and nonprofit capacity. Please click here for more details about what we fund.
Regardless of the focus area, the Foundation doesn’t fund certain kinds of requests, such as sponsorship of fundraising events. Please click here for more information about what we don’t fund.
Types of support
The majority of Foundation funding is for program support, but the Foundation also awards capital support. To research past Foundation grants in West Texas, click here.
The King Foundation awards grants to agencies that either are located in, or are serving residents of, 38 West Texas counties (click here for a map). Our service area includes the Permian Basin, Concho Valley, and Big Bend regions. Agencies based outside our service area may be eligible to apply for funding. Please contact the Foundation to discuss your eligibility before submitting a request.
West Texas Rural Philanthropy Days
The King Foundation sponsors West Texas Rural Philanthropy Days (WTXRPD), a multiday conference providing training to rural nonprofits and opportunities to meet with private and public organizations that provide grants in the region.
Deadlines and timelines
All letters of inquiry and applications must be submitted electronically by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline. Each submission must be complete as of the deadline.
The Foundation observes a two-year window between grant awards. (As an example, if an agency were funded in the fall 2014 grant cycle, it would be eligible to apply for new funding in the fall 2016 cycle.) There is no waiting period if a request is declined.
